Make Your House Enviable With Split Air Conditioner

The Split type air-conditioner is gaining popularity over window type mainly because this type of air conditioner can be mounted easily anywhere with no requirement for a window and it has a beautiful sleek appearance. They have low cost of installation though the capital cost is slightly high.

Though there may be a little increase in power consumption in split type compared to a window type, the running cost is almost same for both the air-conditioner and there is practically no difference in efficiency.

Unlike window type, a split system has condensing unit outside. This leads to a major advantage in a split type as the noise level remains low since the noisy part, the compressor, is kept outside. The evaporation panel remains within the house. The sleek model placed on the wall and the interconnecting pipes kept outside increases the aesthetic sense of the room to a large extent. There is no need to make a provision of window in your room or to remodel your existing window to mount a split type air conditioner, unlike window type.

In a split air-conditioner, the indoor unit sucks air from the room and throws it back to the room after cooling and removing moisture from it, while the outdoor unit removes the heat to the atmosphere. Before you select a split type air conditioner, it is important that you have certain basic ideas briefed in the following paragraphs.

We know that our body temperature is 99 degrees Fahrenheit (37 Celsius). In order to have a comfortable room, it is needed to have a temperature between 70 to 79 degrees F (21 to 26 Celsius) with a relative humidity range of 20 to 50%.

It is important to calculate the heat load of a room which needs to be removed as a low capacity ac will not be able to cool the room and a higher capacity ac will make the room humid.

An air-conditioners heating or cooling capacities are rated by watts or kilowatts. Normally a room having two occupants carries away 50 British thermal units (BTUs) of heat per hour, per square foot of the room area. One Kilowatt is equivalent to 3400 BTUs per hour. This means for a 15 feet x 15 feet room size, an air-conditioner having a capacity of 11250 BTU (15 feet x 15 feet x 50 BTU/houtr) will be required. With this, 600 BTU/hr for every person and 1000 BTU/hr for each appliance need to be added.

Also try to avoid three phase connection which is difficult to maintain and expensive to install and go for single phase connection. Normally the efficiency of the air-conditioner is measured by energy efficiency rating (EER) which is the ratio of cooling capacity to the power consumption and the thumb rule is the higher the EER the better is the cooling.

The insulation of the room should be proper to have a good air-conditioning. Also the faster the airflow rate the better is the cooling however be sure to buy a system having higher moisture removal rate. Check for a low noise level of less than 50 decibels for your air-conditioner.

Rotary vane type compressors are normally recommended over the other type of compressors. These compressors have less number of moving parts than reciprocating compressors.

In split type of air-conditioner auto control facilities are available which are auto timers, auto sleep mode, auto restart, remote control, auto diagnosis self test, filter cleaning warning alarm/LED, automatic changeover to dehumidification, etc to name a few.

Make sure to consider the above features before you buy a sleek and elegant split-ac for your living room or dining room or the conference room in your office. Some of the popular models in the market are Toshiba, Daikin, Hitachi, LG and Ogeneral.

The need for Air Purification

The need for Air Purification. Activated carbon filters represent one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways to purify air as well as water. Air purification is important in hydroponics as well as good, clean water in maintaining hydroponic systems. Youll find many different types of systems available at stores and websites that sell hydroponic supplies, but youll want a good supply, as activated carbon filters require periodic changing.

The Importance of Carbon Air Filters

Although hydroponics literally means water gardening, air purification is an important component. One of the challenges maintaining indoor hydroponic systems and indoor gardens is eliminating the many airborne contaminants that can cause your plants to sicken and even die. Its a good idea to have a blower of some kind that brings in plenty of fresh air to the space, but carbon filters are necessary in order to remove various potential toxins from the environment as well.

Theres another important reason why when engaging in activities related to indoor horticulture, carbon filters are important, and that is to keep odors at a minimum.

Types of Carbon Air Filters

There are several types of carbon filters available:

• Powdered activated carbon (PAC)

• Granulated activated carbon (GAC)

• Extruded activated carbon (EAC)

• Impregnated carbon

• Polymers coated carbon

• Activated carbon fiber

Each of these has a specific use, not all of which are appropriate for hydroponic systems and indoor gardens. Indoor air filters are of the GAC type. Used on U.S. Navy submarines, granulated activated carbon filters contain a form of that element of which the granules are relatively larger than that found in powdered activated carbon air filters.

How Do Carbon Filters Work?

It is not possible to see the process by which activated carbon purifies air and water, nor even under any but the most powerful electron microscope. Carbon is activated by treating charcoal with oxygen, which opens up millions of micropores in the surface of the granules on the atomic level. This provides a relatively huge surface in relation to size - up to 2,000 square meters per gram! Because of this surface area, organic chemicals that have a tendency to bond to carbon are virtually unable to pass through and are trapped.

By the way, carbon air filters are not effective when it comes to inorganic chemicals (the exception being chlorine, which is why activated carbon is good for water treatment). However, chances are that your plants wont be producing sodium or any nitrates, and its unlikely to enter your indoor garden from the outside.

Replace Your Carbon Air Filters as Recommended

There is a limit to how much in the way of organic contaminants activated carbon filters can absorb; therefore, they need to be changed regularly. You can extend the life of your carbon filters by using them in combination with HEPA filters.

Cruising - New Luxury Gigayacht

Are the days of the super yacht coming to an end in the travel world?

Not likely, as there are many luxury yachts traversing the oceans and seas at any given time. Celebrities and other wealthy people love their time away from land in their personal yachts.

A new breed of luxury yacht is making an appearance on the horizon. This newly designed yacht is called the gigayacht. The gigayacht is an entirely new classification of yacht. WallyIsland is said to be the first of the gigayachts. Plans for WallyIsland include a 59 ft wide deck to accommodate the extensive garden area.

Luxury yachts, also known as super yachts, are expensive, privately owned yachts that are operated by a professional crew. Yachts are recreational boats used for leisure and relaxation. They generally start at 32-35 feet in length and increase from there. The term “mega yacht” usually refers to a yacht that is more than 100 ft in length. In order for a yacht to achieve “luxury” or “super” status, it must be at least 200 ft in length.

One of the most famous super yachts in the world is the super yacht owned by the Sheikh of Dubai. The Sheikh’s ‘Platinum’ is an impressive 525 feet long and powered by four 9000 horsepower diesel engines. The actual price tag of ‘Platinum’ has not been disclosed, but some estimate the price to be in excess of $300 million.

Another famous super yacht still under construction is that of Chelsea Football Club owner, Roman Abramovich. Upon completion, Abramovich’s yacht is rumoured to be 550 feet and an estimated 200 million sterling. The super yacht will have space for two helipads, a private cinema and a submarine. Abramovich currently owns a small fleet of luxury yachts widely known as ‘Abramovich’s Navy’.

Possibly the most famous of all super yachts is The Royal Yacht Britannia. Eighty-third in a royal line of yachts, Britannia proudly served the Royal family for 44 years. During its time, the yacht safely delivered The Queen and the Royal Family to 968 official destinations. The super yacht is now moored in the historic port of Leith in Scotland.

Now, the gigayacht isn’t the largest yacht ever made, but it is created to be the greenest. The main deck is designed with the comforts of your own floating estate in mind. The deck consists of a swimming pool, a beautifully landscaped garden and the foliage of your choice. The gardens will be kept healthy and green by an onboard irrigation system.

The extra-wide deck space gives the gigayacht a much larger feel than yachts nearly twice its length. A roomy 1,000 square meter deck space allows room for gardens, fountains and even outdoor sports. A comfortably large swimming pool also adorns the main deck.

The inside of the gigayacht will be just as impressive as the outside. The five accommodation decks include a saloon, dining room, library, cinema, and spa and fitness area. Sleeping quarters aboard WallyIsland include the owner’s suites and space for up to 40 crew members and 24 guests. As one would assume, the suites are rumoured to be spacious and comfortable. Many potential owners are likely to already own a yacht and Monaco property

The enormous fuel tanks hold 750,000 litres of fuel, giving the owner the opportunity to stay out of port for an amazing 15,000 nautical miles. This yacht comes fully equipped with everything one would need to maintain life on your own private floating island for five years.

The price tag associated with the gigayacht is expected to meet or exceed current luxury yacht prices. Don’t let the actual price disappoint or intimidate you. Although an official price has not been named to date, it is believed the gigayacht will remain under $200 million. This is a very competitive figure when compared to similar yachts.
